Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)

The 'permanent' contact lens

What is ICL?

A natural contact lens that lasts forever

For some conditions like serious myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, ICL may be a viable alternative to LASIK treatment. Your LASERSIGHT surgeon will make a tiny cut in your cornea and insert a minuscule , rolled up collamer lens. It unfolds and will stay in place forever, helping to improve your eyesight.

Personalised Vision Correction Solutions

Not everyone qualifies for ICL, and some will prefer LASIK surgery. We’ll thoroughly assess all your options, and if ICL is one of them we’ll talk you through it so you can make an informed decision.

Experienced Surgeons and Advanced Technology

Because it’s made with materials that mimic natural collagen, the chances of reaction with your body are greatly reduced. Our surgical teams are highly experienced in ICL implants, and we use the latest technology to ensure precision and speed.

Comprehensive Support and Follow-Up Care

From your initial consultation to long-term follow-up, we’re with you every step of the way, providing comprehensive care to make sure your eye care journey is smooth and successful.

Learn more about the ICL

It’s like long term contact lenses.

Inserting the implantable collamer lens in your eye is fast and simple. It doesn’t even need stitches. Your LASERSIGHT surgical team makes a tiny incision, inserts the soft, flexible lens in place, and you’re done. If needs be, it’s reversible – the ICL can also be removed with further surgery.

Procedure Time

The ICL procedure typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes per eye. The process of making the incision and inserting the lens is super-fast with our advanced technology ensuring precision and accuracy. You’ll be in and out of the clinic within two hours, including preparation and post-care.

Typical Results

Most patients experience noticeable vision improvement within 24 hours of their procedure. While individual results vary, the majority achieve 20/20 vision or better, reducing or eliminating their dependence on glasses and contacts. Your personalised treatment plan ensures the best possible outcome.

Recovery Time

Recovery is generally quick, with most patients returning to their normal activities within 24 to 48 hours. You may experience some soreness and discomfort. These symptoms usually subside within a few days as your eyes heal naturally, but you can take paracetamol to help.
